Comprehensive Hearing Care You Can Trust

When your ears aren’t functioning properly, more than your hearing is impacted. You may notice a change in your balance, communication abilities, and overall quality of life. Our specialists are trained to evaluate, diagnose, and treat the full range of ear conditions and disorders, relieving your symptoms and restoring your optimal ear health.

How Are Ear Conditions Diagnosed?

If you’re experiencing ear pain, dizziness, hearing loss, and other symptoms, it’s important to seek care from a board-certified otolaryngologist. These are symptoms of myriad underlying conditions, and relief is possible. There are many tests that can help us diagnose your condition. The tests we administer will depend on your symptoms and the suspected diagnosis.

Hearing Tests

Our audiologists specialize in administering hearing tests to determine the degree and specific type of hearing loss you’re experiencing.

Imaging Tests

CT images allow our providers to visualize important ear bones. MRI images allow them to evaluate your softer tissues, such as nerves and inner ear fluid.

Endoscopy

During a diagnostic endoscopy, we will insert a small, flexible telescope into the ear canal. This scope has a camera attached to the end so we can visualize the Eustachian tubes and other important structures.

Balance Testing

While the primary function of the ears is to help you hear, they also help you maintain your balance through the vestibular system. We may recommend a balance test if you routinely feel unsteady, dizzy, or off-balance.

Common Ear Services

Earwax Removal

If you have a buildup of earwax, you may experience pain, pressure, fullness, ringing, and a loss of hearing. Our team can easily remove the blockage with a curved tool called a curet or a suction device, providing near-instant relief from ear pain and pressure and restoring your ability to hear sounds normally.

Eardrum Repair

A ruptured ear drum may be due to head trauma, infections, loud noises, and more. Symptoms include ear pain, ringing in the ears, nausea, a spinning sensation, and hearing loss. The first treatment approach usually involves placing a patch to promote healing. If the patch is unsuccessful, we may need to graft tissue to the area during a surgical procedure.

Chronic Ear Infections

The treatment approach we recommend for chronic ear infections varies depending on the underlying cause. If antibiotics and non-invasive approaches are unsuccessful, we may recommend surgery. This could involve placing tubes to allow fluid to drain properly or correcting structural issues within the ear that make you more susceptible to ear infections.

Ear Surgery

Although our philosophy is to treat ear conditions with non-surgical approaches first, there are times when ear surgery is necessary. At The Barranco Clinic, our providers perform the full spectrum of ear surgeries needed to deliver lasting relief from symptoms and restore healthy, functioning ears.

Our specialists are trained in the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques and will perform your procedure with precision to minimize scarring, speed your recovery, and ensure your safety.

We may perform surgery for patients experiencing:

  • Hearing loss
  • Perforated eardrums
  • Chronic ear infections
  • Meniere’s disease
  • Acoustic neuroma
  • Tumors

Tumors of the Ear

In rare cases, hearing and balance symptoms can be due to a tumor on the inner or middle ear.  Tumors on the middle ear are called glomus tumors, and tumors on the inner ear are called acoustic neuromas. Both are usually benign, but if they’re large or growing, you may require surgery to correct them.

Symptoms of middle or inner ear tumors include:

  • Dizziness
  • Hearing loss
  • Discharge or bleeding
  • Pain, fullness, or ringing
  • A pulsing sound in the ear
  • A bump
