The lymph nodes function as protectors that assist the body in fighting off bacteria and viruses before they can damage the rest of the system. When they are swollen, it is often due to an illness that the lymph nodes are helping to combat.
Treatments for Enlarged Lymph Nodes
As a first step, we will administer a variety of tests to determine what is causing the swollen lymph nodes. Some of the most common treatments we use include immunotherapy and antibiotics. Antibiotics are effective in fighting off infections that have triggered lymph node enlargement.
In rare cases, swollen lymph nodes may indicate cancer. If our doctors are concerned about this, they may initiate a biopsy by removing a tiny piece of the lymph node and submitting it for detailed analysis.
