How the Surgery is Performed

Prior to surgery, the adenoids will be investigated through x-rays or by using an endoscope to accurately view any enlargement or swelling. Once surgery is decided upon as the best option, the procedure will be scheduled at a time convenient for you.

Adenoidectomy is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. The ENT surgeon will remove the glands through the mouth using a scalpel and a cauterizing device to minimize bleeding. Once the surgery is complete, the patient can return home to begin their recovery.

What to Expect from an Adenoidectomy

Prior to surgery, our team of caring, seasoned ENT providers will assess your symptoms and concerns and make sure surgery is right for you (or your child.) Once the surgery is determined to be the best solution, your operation will be scheduled on the books.

On the day of your surgery, you will receive general anesthesia, ensuring your complete comfort and relaxation during the procedure. Your surgeon will place a tool inside the mouth to prop it open while they remove the adenoid glands. A cauterization device will heat the tissue in order to stop any bleeding. Once the operation is complete and you have been monitored for any complications, you will return home to begin your recuperation.
