For patients who are struggling with dysphagia, breathing problems, changes in their voice, chronic halitosis, throat pain, or persistent coughing, a laryngoscopy may be an excellent treatment option. Our team of experienced ENT specialists at Florida ENT Associates is eager to meet with you and get to the root of your symptoms so that you can get back to living your best life.

Procedure Overview

Using an endoscope, or narrow, thin tube with a camera and light attached to the end, your ENT provider can obtain a more thorough and detailed impression of the areas where you are experiencing symptoms. After a numbing agent is applied, the probe is inserted into the nose or throat. The entire process takes just minutes to perform.

What Conditions Can an Endoscopic Inspection be Used For?

Endoscopic inspection of the throat and voice box can provide ENT doctors with a crystal clear understanding of the issues at hand so they can calculate the most appropriate treatment plan to relieve your symptoms. With a short exam time of around 20 minutes and no downtime, the test is an ideal way to assess abnormalities, polyps, or growths found in the larynx.

Conditions Treated:

  • Chronic throat pain or cough
  • Chronic bad breath
  • Unexplained vocal changes
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing

An endoscopic examination of the vocal cords or voice box can also be performed in order to remove growths. Patients may also benefit from the examination after digital imaging to assess the area further.

What to Expect from the Procedure

Before the test, our doctors may ask you to discontinue certain medications and avoid eating or drinking for a certain amount of time. The procedure is performed in our offices and takes less than half an hour to complete. Your throat or nose will be numbed prior to insertion of the endoscope, making the process less uncomfortable than you might think. Once the scope is in place, it will record images that can then be used to create a detailed and personalized treatment plan.

Procedure Candidacy

Good candidates for endoscopic inspection of the throat and voice box are experiencing symptoms such as vocal problems, trouble swallowing, and bad breath without knowing the cause. The procedure can also be useful for biopsying an abnormal tumor or growth in the voice box.

FAQ

Is the insertion process painful?

Our ENT doctors aim to make the process as stress-free as possible by completely numbing the area before they insert the endoscope. You may cough temporarily as the device enters the body, but this will stop momentarily.

Will I know my results right away?

It will take a few days to obtain your results. After this, your ENT doctor will need time to interpret their findings and make their recommendations for your treatment. You will then return to the office to undergo an informative consultation and discussion of your treatment plan.

With 5 convenient locations across Florida, we’re never far away.
