When the vocal cords vibrate abnormally, a complicated voice disorder may be to blame. A vocal ailment can affect the tone and volume of your voice and may cause your pitch to be off. Some vocal conditions can be simple and straightforward to treat, but when the matter is more complex and involved, it requires a seasoned, skilled ENT doctor to root out the cause and correct it.
How the Examination is Performed
Our ENT doctors will investigate inflammation and growths that may be at the heart of your vocal disorder. We will perform in-depth diagnostic testing to determine exactly where and when the disturbance to your voice is occurring.
This may include the use of a laryngoscope or stroboscope, specialized tools that give the doctor the clearest view of your vocal cords. It may be necessary to surgically remove tissue from the throat. Other options for treatment include medication, speech therapy, or behavioral changes.
